Cloud 9 is a study in sexual and personal freedoms as explored through a time shift and a gender role shift between the first and second acts. The first act, largely cross-cast high farce, is set in British colonial Africa around 1880; the second act is set in 1979/1980 in London, though for the characters only 25 years have past.
