Smoke, Lilies, & Jade, produced by the Center for New Performance in 2008, is a new work by Karl Hancock Rux exploring gender, sexuality, and morality in the Harlem Renaissance.  A memory play, all of Alex’s (based on the real life and stories of Richard Bruce Nugent) friends – Zora Neale Hurston, Langston Hughes, Wallace Thurman, Carl Van Vechten – are more fabulous versions of themselves, glamorized beyond belief.
